The first step in your SAAQ file is to submit a claim request.
A claim may relate to the various indemnities:
- Compensation for bodily injury
- Compensation for psychological damage
- Income Replacement Indemnity (IRR)
It may also cover other subjects, such as:
- Your ability to work
- Personal help at home
- Reimbursement for medical treatments (such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy or psychotherapy)
The compensation process can be very long in some situations. For example, our experience shows that normally, the SAAQ does not rule on physical sequelae until twelve (12) to eighteen (18) months. This long delay is explained by the fact that the SAAQ waits for your statement to be consolidated before deciding on your sequelae.
Consolidation is a stabilization of your health at a given time, and can be compared to a plateau of improvement or deterioration of your physical condition.
You can always contact a lawyer following a traffic accident and get legal advice. However, since no decision has yet been rendered, there is no need for the services of a lawyer at this stage. Please note that the lawyer can only represent you from the moment there is a decision to be challenged.
As soon as you receive a notice of decision, do not hesitate to contact our office for us to advise you on the legal procedure.
If you have not yet received a notice of decision, we advise you to consult the different pages of our site to guide you.
