Please note that we accept legal aid mandates in the majority of social assistance cases, with the exception of marital life claims in which a meeting with the client is required before accepting the mandate.
We also accept legal aid mandates in criminal law, housing law and some work accident files.
With a legal aid mandate, our services are free of charge.
Who is eligible for legal aid?
Eligibility for legal aid is automatic for social assistance recipients wishing to challenge a decision of the Ministère du Travail, de l’Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale (MTESS) under the act.
To be eligible for legal aid to challenge a social assistance decision, simply tell them at an appointment that you wish to be represented by a lawyer in private practice. You have the choice of being represented by a lawyer from the legal aid office or requesting that a legal aid warrant be issued to a lawyer of your choice.
To find out if you are eligible for legal aid without a contribution, see sections 18 to 21 of the Legal Aid Regulations.
The 3-step process
- Send us the decision to be contested by fax at (514) 878-2378 (Montreal) or (418) 661-4376 (Quebec) or by email in PDF format at info@lambertavocats.ca. Please note that photos are not accepted. To avoid fax costs, you can fax the documents to us at a local employment centre or community centre.
- Send us your telephone number at the same time;
- Make an appointment at the legal aid office nearest you and obtain a legal aid mandate* on behalf of Me Jimmy Lambert (social welfare), Me Yahia Belhaddad (criminal law) or Me Felicia Rotaru (housing law).
Please note that Legal Aid does not transfer any documents to us. It is therefore your responsibility to send us the documents and decisions to be challenged on time.
*A separate mandate is required for each contested decision and for each step in the progress of your case.
