On December 21, 2020, our firm filed an application for authorization to bring a class action against DoorDash. The purpose of this request is to obtain reimbursement for illegal service fees paid by Quebec consumers who placed an order on the DoorDash mobile application or online on the www.doordash.com website.
Illegal fees
DoorDash offers a home meal delivery service around the world, through their mobile app and online.
Our client noticed that there was a 4% service charge that was automatically added when making her payment on the DoorDash mobile app, as well as a $2 small order fee for an order under $12, whereas these fees were never announced before checkout.
Under section 224 (c) of the Act, traders may not charge, by any means, a price higher than that advertised. Therefore, the advertised price must include all amounts due, except applicable taxes, and clearly highlight the amounts of which it is composed, including the service fees in this case.
Target group
All persons residing in Quebec who have made a transaction on the DoorDash mobile application or on the website www.doordash.com who have paid a higher price than that advertised.
Current status of the file
On March 29, 2022, the Court approved the settlement agreement.
