Admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1981 and holder of a Master of Laws, Mtre Chantal Perreault devotes her practice to advising and assisting defence professionals during investigations or disciplinary complaints and offers training in professional law with a rigor and dedication that have earned her the highest distinctions from her peers. Recognized for her cutting-edge expertise and exceptional contribution to the profession, she received the prestigious distinction of Advocatus Emeritus (Ad.E.) in 2009, the same year that the Canadian Bar Association awarded her the Jules-Deschênes Award.
Mtre Perreault has a 360-degree vision of professional and disciplinary law. Her unique experience is not limited to a single angle of the system. From 2015 to 2020, she served as President of the Disciplinary Councils of the Professional Orders of Quebec (Administrative Judge), where she rendered 151 decisions on guilt and sanctions. Previously, she acted as Syndic ad hoc for the Barreau du Québec, conducting investigations, supervising conciliation and litigating disciplinary complaints. She has also been at the heart of regulatory improvement as a professional lawyer at the Research and Legislation Department of the Barreau du Québec, where she drafted or advised the Barreau du Québec on draft regulatory or legislative amendments.
This cutting-edge expertise in ethics is based on a solid foundation of nearly 30 years as a litigator in civil and commercial litigation in major law firms. Having pleaded before all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada, Mtre Perreault has developed recognized expertise in professional and disciplinary liability and the protection of minority shareholders. Her numerous publications and conferences on complex topics, such as conflict of interest and ethics, make her a leading authority and thought leader in the field.
Today, Mtre Perreault puts this vast experience at the service of her clients as counsel, mediator and ombudsman. She favours a pragmatic and human approach, aiming to resolve disputes and guide her clients through stressful situations with empathy and clarity. Known for her listening skills and integrity, her human side is reflected in her long-standing community involvement, whether as president of a foundation for disabled children, involved in several youth organizations, as a “Big Sister” since 1982 or, more recently, as a volunteer at the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Palliative Care Residence. This rare combination of legal authority and deep humanity makes Ms. Perreault an invaluable ally in navigating disciplinary and ethical issues.
